I. INTRODUCTION:

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is a complex formulation that selectively modifies cellulosic fibres to aid in the swelling of these fibres, especially in the flat-pressed recycled paper waste, resulting in better re-pulping in typical paper making process.  Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking will dislodge ink and dirt from waste paper particularly from ONP.

Since the fibre material present in the ONP is made from 100% mechanical pulp (TMP) it would provides plenty of opportunity for alkali consuming reactions to take place between lignin/hemicelluloses, resulting in fibre yellowing. Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking can remove ink printed on ONP effectively with much less caustic soda added, so the fibre yellowing effect is reduced achieving higher optical brightness.

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is a stable, liquid formulation, operating between a broad range of pH (6.0 – 8.0) and temperature 25°C – 75°C.

II. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:

Appearance: Medium to dark amber liquid

(Note that colour does not affect or reflect activity.)

Odour: Slight fermentation odour

pH (as is): 4.5 +/- 1.0

Density: 1.20 +/– 0.10 g/ml

III. PRODUCT CAPABILITIES:

When applied as directed in this bulletin, Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking can help accomplish the following:

  1. Enhances re-pulping of recycled fibres.
  2. Facilitates the release of contaminants (impact and non-impact) such as stickies or inks from fibre surfaces, after that these inks and stickies are simply screened out of the process. The resulting pulp will be cleaner and brighter.
  3. Enhances the drainage rates of recycled fibres.
  4. Enhances fibre strength, reduce refining energy requirements, and increase inter-fibre bonding paper strength properties.

IV. PROCESSING CONDITIONS(GENERAL)

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking will function from a pH of 6.0 – 8.0, making it a product that is highly adaptable to most existing Paper making processes. This product is best recommended for neutral re-pulping.

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking will function optimally in the range from 25ºC – 75ºC. Higher operating temperature result in higher action allowing lower a dosage for the particular application.

V. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USAGE:

1. Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is added at a typical dosage of 150 – 220 grams/ton (metric ton) of dry pulp. The dosage will depend on furnish, process temperature, pH and retention times and may be higher or lower than the above typical dosage. The formulation is typically dosed at the hydra-pulper.

2. Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking can be dosed manually in a batch-by-batch process, or can be dosed automatically by using a dosage pump.

3. Under normal operating conditions, in addition to brighter and whiter pulp, the use of Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking will result in lower refiner loads, higher refiner throughput, and reduced paper machine steam consumption. It may also be necessary to recalibrate refiner loads against final sheet properties, not pulp freeness, as refiner curves may become modified, reflecting the effect of the product’s beneficial activity.

VI. STORAGE CONDITIONS/ACTIVITY:

The product shelf life of Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is a minimum of one year if stored in a controlled environment at 25ºC or lower. Do not let freeze.

VII. INACTIVATION:

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking can be inactivated by either raising the pH above 11.0 or the temperature above 81ºC, or a combination of the two. Oxidisers such as peroxide, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide can also be used to inactivate the formulation. In the pulp and paper process, Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is inactivated in the dryers at the paper machine. No residual activity will be found in the manufactured paper.

VIII. PACKAGING:

Saxon LDI™ Liquid Paper De-inking is packaged in 30 kgs polyethylene pales.
